NEW-PWS (Nh?t Tan Bridge, Vietnam)
The Nh?t Tan Bridge that crosses the Red River of the city of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is the world's largest cable-stayed bridge and serves to connect the city of Hanoi with the Noi Bai International Airport.
The contract for the construction of this bridge was awarded to a joint venture of IHI Infrastructure Systems Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd. with the construction carried out by the provision of Official Development Assistance from Japan (yen loan).
The form of this bridge is rather unique globally in that it is a cable-stayed bridge consisting of six consecutive spans formed from five towers, with Tokyo Rope's NEW-PWS used for the 220 diagonal cables and eight tie-down cables that support the bridge.
Additionally, cable surfaces were treated with a surface coating called "indent treatment" that serves as a countermeasure to vibration when it rains. Indent treatment was originally developed for the Tatara Bridge, the largest cable-stayed bridge in Japan, and is a unique technology of Tokyo Rope that has since been used for a large number of cable-stayed bridges in other countries as a Japanese technology.
